Heritage Days Open House

Weekend in mid-September when important historical and cultural buildings are open to the public, including the Centre Quaker.

We invite you to join us for 5-10 days of musical exploration to lift your spirits and make new friends at Maison Quaker.

Language of Programme: English

Mike has created a retreat that is open to anybody with an interest in exploring different musical ideas and trying out a variety of approaches to music-making. Whether you have had lessons; are self taught or have sung with a group or choir; whether you can read notation or play or sing by ear; or whether you prefer to play familiar songs or to improvise, you will be welcome. If you love music there is a place for you.

This retreat is inclusive both in terms of who comes along and the range of music we make. Each participant's musical experience will contribute and enrich the outcome. Some activities may involve working on your own for short periods, but the general ethos of the retreat is collaboration either in small groups or with everyone taking part. Some of the music we play might be conventional, some less so, some tightly structured, some more improvisatory. There will be periods of discussion too, giving you an opportunity to share ideas and reflect on the work we are doing. The facilitated part of the programme is from Monday evening to Saturday morning. The other days are optional and can be used for sightseeing or just relaxing around Maison Quaker. If you have a musical instrument that you would like to bring with you, don't hestitate.

Mike Adcock is our facilitator for the programme. He is a musician, composer, teacher and writer. He lives in the UK and works with people of all ages and levels of musical experience. His main instruments are the piano and the accordian and his musical interests are wide and varied. He loves to encourage collaboration in music making. He has run music workshops in the UK, Germany and Norway. Contact: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
